Lee Charles Pursglove

Dr Lee Charles Pursglove is a General Practitioner working in Northumberland with a keen interest in integrating generic point of care ultrasound into his consultations and minor surgery, both in hours and out of hours. His journey started in 2018 in Emergency at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia and continues at Teesside University, with a masters in Medical Ultrasound.

For General Practitioners POCUS is very much in its infancy in the UK and Ireland but is widely used in Europe. He has collaborated with his European colleagues on how to integrate POCUS into GP and is part of a large International Delphi study to identify which POCUS applications are best suited to GP.

Dr Sawan Patel

Dr Sawan Patel is a GP principal and trainer based at Harborne Medical Practice in Birmingham, where he has been since 2005.  Clinical interests include minor surgery, joint injections and point of care diagnostics. Dr Patel has been using point of care ultrasound since early 2020, advocating for its use in primary care since then. He has been mentored by Dr Sarbjit Clare (Acute Medical Consultant) to gain FUSIC lung ultrasound accreditation. Since starting the POCUS journey in early 2020, Dr Patel has seen this skill become an invaluable part of his daily work and is keen for other GPs to learn this skill.

Paramjeet (Parmy) Deol

Parmy Deol is a dual qualified Emergency Physician and General Practitioner working in Chelsea and Westminster hospital. He has led on ultrasound training at Northwest London level for GPs and Emergency Medicine trainees. He has a keen interest in Ultrasound education and Musculoskeletal ultrasound, directing Emergency Ultrasound courses locally. He holds a PgCert in Medical and Musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Shwan Maroof

Dr Maroof is a General Practitioner with an interest in urgent care. He has developed a particular focus in POCUS and Respiratory Medicine in Primary Care since 2020. He has taught on numerous POCUS courses. He is passionate about expanding POCUS into the community. 

Antonio Stavrou

Antonio Stavrou is a GP trained in the Thames Valley region and has an Epidemiology degree. He has been using POCUS, particularly thoracic and abdominal, since 2020 during training in Acute Medicine at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. He has been practising and teaching it in primary and secondary care since.

Dr Sarb Clare

Dr Sarb Clare MBE is the Deputy Medical Director and an Acute Medical Consultant at SWBH NHS Trust and the NHSEI Midlands Regional Advisor for AIM. She was the first appointed Acute Physician at City Hospital in 2008.

She is a national pioneer in POCUS which she lectures and teaches on nationally. She runs a yearly course “Ultrasound at the Front Door” and has created many free online learning tools. Her book “Ultrasound For the Generalist – A Guide to Point of Care Imaging” with Cambridge University Press is a culmination of 18 years of POCUS experience.

She is passionate about leadership, gender and diversity workplace balance as well as widening participation. She leads a Women Empowering Women movement within medicine, hosts a podcast and has delivered a TEDx Talk.

In 2020 she was awarded an MBE Queens Honor for her service to the NHS and her leadership during the pandemic.

Prof Daniel Lasserson

Dan Lasserson is Professor of Acute Ambulatory Care at Warwick Medical School, medical lead for the Acute Hospital at Home service at the John Radcliffe Hospital,  Oxford and President of the UK Hospital at Home Society. He is FAMUS and FUSIC Heart accredited and has brought POCUS into hospital at home, scanning patients in homes and care homes as part of assessment and treatment for acute illness. He teaches POCUS to all members of the multi-disciplinary team and is involved in research to optimise POCUS delivery in hospital at home.

Andy Walden

Dr Andrew Walden is a Consultant in Acute and Intensive Care Medicine and has been interested in the role of POCUS since 2008. He helped develop Focused Ultrasound in Intensive Care (FUSIC) competencies and chaired the Focused Acute Medicine Ultrasound (FAMUS) committee from 2016 to 2018. He has published widely on the use of lung ultrasound in a range of settings including resource poor countries. He believes strongly that POCUS greatly improves the care and flow of patients and is a champion of a multidisciplinary approach.

Lorenzo Cristoni

Lorenzo Cristoni is a Consultant in Acute Medicine at Frimley Park Hospital.

He is an enthusiast FICE, CUSIC and FAMUS mentor with a 20 years’ experience in point of care ultrasound and a particular commitment in promoting POCUS as the 5th pillar of the clinical examination in all the courses where he teaches.

He is an expert in abdominal US, with a particular interest in ultrasound of the intestine, and in the integrated heart-lung-IVC sonographic approach to the acutely unwell patient.

Joseph Nunan

Dr Joe Nunan is a specialty doctor at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. He has helped develop POCUS within acute medicine since becoming the Ultrasound Fellow in 2020. Passionate about teaching, Joe has worked for Dr Walden in promoting POCUS since then. 

Dr Nunan teaches on all of our courses.

Ibrahim ElNaggar

Ibrahim ElNaggar is a GP trainee in Thames Valley deanery. He developed interest in POCUS since graduation from medical school. He is a strong believer in the role of POCUS in primary care as a diagnostic tool. He joined Dr Walden’s team to work with similar POCUS passionate doctors to deliver primary care oriented POCUS program and he is quite enthusiastic about teaching ultrasound himself.
